Daytrotter Barn Tour Comes to Dexter, MI...

This spring marks the fourth installation of the Daytrotter Barnstormer tour, bringing some of the country's greatest young talents to the tiny points on the map, in the middle of the countryside, under a roof of stars, amongst the smell of alfalfa and the mooing of cows. We'll be hitting towns near Big Ten University cities on this run - April 26-30th - getting into Minnesota and Michigan for the first time, while finding a beautiful old barn in the suburbs of Chicago and heading back to two of our favorite barns in all of the world in Monticello, Ill. and Maquoketa, Iowa. Along for the ride this time are the great Norwegian Sondre Lerche, New York's Caveman (featuring members of The Subjects and The End of the World), New York's Guards (featuring members of Cults), Los Angeles' The Romany Rye and a handful of guests that we'll announce here and in our weekly newsletter as they're known. If you've ever been to a Barnstormer show, you know they're not to be missed. Get your tickets soon as many of these barns are intimate and there will be a limited number of tickets available. See you at the barns!

The last of the new barns on the tour, we'll be getting into Wolverine territory for the first time as well. This barn is a beautifully pillared structure that is bound to be a wonderful setting for a tour that will be at full steam by the time we reach this stage. **Please note that tickets will be extremely limited for this show.

Gonna Be a Fiasco in Ann Arbor...

Lupe Fiasco will perform a Peace Corp Benefit Concert on April 1st at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

From The Michigan Student Assembly Site:
The Michigan Student Assembly, Big Ticket Productions, and New Beat Happening announced hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco as the headliner for the Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Benefit Concert. Lupe Fiasco’s continued dedication to philanthropy and global activism, as well as his large following on campus, made him an exceptional selection as the featured performer for this extraordinary event.

Planning for the Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Benefit Concert began in July of 2010 by MSA and is a continuation of University-wide celebrations that marked the semi-centennial of the conception of the Peace Corps by John F. Kennedy. This unprecedented effort has remained entirely student-led through collaboration with on-campus programming organizations Big Ticket Productions and New Beat Happening.

The concert will occur at Hill Auditorium on April 1st, 2011. All proceeds from the anticipated sold-out crowd will be donated to Peace Corps projects focused on developing secondary education. Tickets will be sold to U-M students at a reduced student-rate. The 2-day student presale will take on Wednesday March 16th, and Thursday March 17th at the Michigan Union Ticket Office (MUTO). General public ticket sales will begin Friday, March 18th and will be available at MUTO and Ticketmaster.com.

With the release of his long awaited and highly acclaimed new album “Lasers,” Lupe Fiasco has fostered a strong following on campus through his socially conscious lyrics and alternative hip-hop stylings. Moreover, his dedication to philanthropy and global activism highlights the public service and global awareness represented by the Peace Corps and its University-wide celebrations throughout the year. Among other philanthropic efforts, Lupe Fiasco has worked with Summit on the Summit, a program to raise awareness for billions who lack sanitary drinking water, and with Music for Relief, a charity for the immediate relief and long-term recovery of Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.

Mic Check: The Wilderness of Manitoba...

Make some space in your musical brain to check out The Wilderness of Manitoba. Enjoy.

As the description came to me:
Part Fleet Foxes, part Fleetwood Mac (think 'Future Games'/'Bare Trees' -era), their sound is rich and organic, relying on the strength of their "heavenly" (No Depression) vocal harmonies and acoustic instruments to evoke a rustic soundscape fitting their name. Their debut album, 'When You Left the Fire' will be released May 10 via tinyOGRE Entertainment.

My Morning Jacket Set to Release Circuital...

My Morning Jacket will release their highly anticipated sixth studio album this spring, entitled Circuital. In celebration of the forthcoming full-length, the band will give away six weekly downloads beginning March 3rd. The first five downloads will be live songs taken from each night of their historic week at New York’s Terminal 5 in October of 2010. On the sixth week, the band will offer up a brand new song from the new album.

Circuital was recorded in Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN, and was co-produced by frontman Jim James and Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists). While in Louisville, the birthplace of the band and where three fifths of the guys are from, they recorded in the unique environment of a gymnasium inside of a church. They laid down almost everything live and allowed room for spontaneity.

In addition to getting reacquainted with their roots, the guys opted for a loose and warm production style for the album. The result is yet another reinvention of their sound that both forges new ground and maintains the distinct spirit of My Morning Jacket’s previous work.

Head to www.mymorningjacket.com to sign up for all six songs now and immediately receive the first song taken from their first night at Terminal 5.

My Morning Jacket Tour Dates:
04-17 Lexington, KY - Memorial Coliseum (University of Kentucky)

05-20-22 Gulf Shores, AL - Hangout Festival

06-02-05 Ozark, AR - Wakarusa Festival
