Third Coast Kings Ready to Rule...

The Third Coast Kings are an eight element proper deep funk and soul outfit from Detroit/Ann Arbor, Michigan, that draws influence from the great James Brown, as well as the many artists from the 60s and 70s whose music was carefully salvaged by the crate digging revolution. Most importantly, Third Coast Kings make it a point to remain true to the style and technique of playing proper deep funk and soul to a live audience that might otherwise only be heard on dusty 45s. They are proud to be a part of the growing number of acts putting the right kind of funk back onto the stage, bringing the hot heat to wherever they perform, like only the Kings can.

These cats will put the dip back into your hips and the jive in your stride, watch out as they begin their ascent in the contemporary funk and soul scene with their much anticipated self-titled debut, out in all the best stores from March 2012 on CD/Digital and LIMITED EDITION vinyl LP!!!

Third Coast Kings are:
Brian Einstein Lassiter - alto/baritone sax
James "Gemstone" Keovongsak - drums
Steve Barker - bass
Andy Filisko - guitar
Terry Kimura - trombone
Ryan Dolan - trumpet
Alec Cooper - tenor sax
Michelle "The Belle" Camilleri / Sean Ike - vocals

Van Hunt Sets Detroit Date...

Van Hunt will play The Magic Bag in Ferndale, MI near Detroit on March 22nd.

From his website:
With his new album What Were You Hoping For?, Van Hunt employs a spare but dizzyingly vibrant meld of day-glo psychedelic soul laced with glammed-up riffs and the acerbic energy of punk. A joint venture between the Nashville-based Thirty Tigers and Hunt’s own label, godless-hotspot, the album sees the Grammy-winning musician/songwriter/producer turning up the volume on his genre-smashing songcraft and the results are altogether gripping. From the breakneck “Watching You Go Crazy Is Driving Me Insane” and “A Time Machine Is My New Girlfriend” to the metallic k.o. of the album’s first single,“Eyes Like Pearls,” Hunt unleashes a sound that reverberates with caustic wit, passion, and the thrilling excitement of an artist operating at the peak of his powers. Careening with exhilarating intensity and frenetic, inventive musicality, What Were You Hoping For? is Van Hunt’s most daring and provocative work to date.

“I’m really excited about this record,” Hunt says. “I love the way it sounds. I’m nervous about the way it’ll be received, even by big Van Hunt fans, and I think that’s good. I want the record to be disruptive.”
