Gonna Be a Fiasco in Ann Arbor...

Lupe Fiasco will perform a Peace Corp Benefit Concert on April 1st at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

From The Michigan Student Assembly Site:
The Michigan Student Assembly, Big Ticket Productions, and New Beat Happening announced hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco as the headliner for the Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Benefit Concert. Lupe Fiasco’s continued dedication to philanthropy and global activism, as well as his large following on campus, made him an exceptional selection as the featured performer for this extraordinary event.

Planning for the Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Benefit Concert began in July of 2010 by MSA and is a continuation of University-wide celebrations that marked the semi-centennial of the conception of the Peace Corps by John F. Kennedy. This unprecedented effort has remained entirely student-led through collaboration with on-campus programming organizations Big Ticket Productions and New Beat Happening.

The concert will occur at Hill Auditorium on April 1st, 2011. All proceeds from the anticipated sold-out crowd will be donated to Peace Corps projects focused on developing secondary education. Tickets will be sold to U-M students at a reduced student-rate. The 2-day student presale will take on Wednesday March 16th, and Thursday March 17th at the Michigan Union Ticket Office (MUTO). General public ticket sales will begin Friday, March 18th and will be available at MUTO and Ticketmaster.com.

With the release of his long awaited and highly acclaimed new album “Lasers,” Lupe Fiasco has fostered a strong following on campus through his socially conscious lyrics and alternative hip-hop stylings. Moreover, his dedication to philanthropy and global activism highlights the public service and global awareness represented by the Peace Corps and its University-wide celebrations throughout the year. Among other philanthropic efforts, Lupe Fiasco has worked with Summit on the Summit, a program to raise awareness for billions who lack sanitary drinking water, and with Music for Relief, a charity for the immediate relief and long-term recovery of Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.
