Nacional Records is proud to announce the September 28th release of Tom Tom Club’s ‘Genius Of Live.’ The iconic group’s new album will feature select tracks from classic album ‘Live At The Club House’ as well as a remix tribute to the smash hit, “Genius Of Love.” Tom Tom Club will embark on their first lengthy U.S. tour in 10 years this fall.

“It will be a real pleasure for us to see so much of the USA again this fall,” says Tom Tom Club drummer/founder Chris Frantz. “We are all very excited about this tour, to go out and make new friends and reconnect with old friends. The band consists of seven players, is smoking hot and completely live. We don't use any sequencers or backing tapes at all!”

‘Live At The Club House’ was recorded with the group performing at peak energy for a collection of friends in their Connecticut home studio. It features Tom Tom Club’s effervescent, energetic, and upbeat live show while proving their original fusion of hip hop, reggae, Afrobeat and funk is truly timeless. The album travels the group’s catalog from “Genius Of Love” and “Wordy Rappinghood” to their renowned covers of Al Green’s “Take Me To The River” and Hot Chocolate’s “You Sexy Thing.” It was recorded shortly after the September 11 tragedy, converting the stress and paranoia of the times into positive energy.

“We have a really exciting band and wanted to record the band for posterity while we were all together,” Chris says. “Who knew if we would still be all together in the future? This was in October immediately following the harrowing events of September 11 and we wanted to do something positive and fun to counteract the sad and confused feeling people were experiencing at the time.”

The Tom Tom Club was formed by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth in 1981. Graduates from the Rhode Island School of Design, they moved to New York City where they founded the Talking Heads as a trio with David Byrne in 1975. Chris played drums, Tina played bass and David sang and played guitar. In early 1981, the Talking Heads took a hiatus after five years of touring internationally and four studio albums. Chris and Tina began the Tom Tom Club and signed with Chris Blackwell and Island Records.

When legendary reggae producer Lee “Scratch” Perry failed to show up for the scheduled recording sessions in the Bahamas, Blackwell allowed Chris and Tina to produce the album themselves with Jamaican engineer Steven Stanley. The Tom Tom Club's first single was “Wordy Rappinghood,” an unusually original mix of schoolyard rap over a funky groove that went into the top of the charts in 17 countries. “Wordy Rappinghood” turned out to be seminal in bringing mainstream attention to the new spirit of hip-hop.

Midpoint Music Fest.10 Returns to Cinci...

MidPoint Music Festival (MPMF) launched in 2002 in Cincinnati, Ohio, as an independent music festival and industry conference. The annual three-day event occurs each September in the city's downtown and historic Over-the-Rhine entertainment district. Founded by Cincinnati musicians Bill Donabedian, of Crosley, and Sean Rhiney, of Clabbergirl, the festival was acquired in 2008 by Cincinnati CityBeat, a weekly alternative newspaper.

Starting July 1st, tickets will be on sale at for only $39. These will provide access to everything the festival offers, including three days of showcases by hundreds of acts from around the world. Plus, only 3-day pass holders will receive clues and entry to the highly vaunted Secret Show.

My Morning Jacket Takes 5 in NYC...

Eleven years into their career, Louisville’s My Morning Jacket have released five highly acclaimed, classic albums, the live concert album and DVD Okonokos, and have been revered for their legendary live performances. With such an expansive catalogue, it’s been impossible in recent years for the band to perform every last MMJ favorite for one venue… that is, until this October. In an unprecedented move, New York City’s Terminal 5 will be presenting a historic five night run of shows where the band will perform one of their albums in its entirety on each night.

The stint will kick off on Monday, October 18th with a performance of the Jacket’s debut, 1999’s The Tennessee Fire, and will be followed chronologically by their other four full-lengths, ending with 2008’s Evil Urges on Saturday the 23rd. After the given album is performed each night, the audience will be treated to a mix of favorites from the band’s catalog as well. The series of shows are sure to put a magnifying glass over the chameleonic band’s history, highlighting their remarkable tendency to perpetually evolve.

All of the dates will individually go on sale June 18th but for fans who want the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of experiencing all five nights, there will be a special pre-sale. Five-show ticket packages will go on sale June 14th. As with their current upcoming headlining tour dates in August, the band will be donating $1 from each ticket to a local charity. Jamie Lidell Adds Cleveland Grog Shop Date...

Funky and full of soul, or soulful and full of funk . . . either way, Jamie Lidell will be at The Grog Shop in Cleveland on September 10th.

Review of his latest album, Compass:
“a neo-psychedelic ode, planting romantic avowals amid arid textures.”
- New York Times

"elegantly warped love songs...(a) blend of creamy come-ons and fuzzy beats"
- Rolling Stone

"A beautifully mixed bag...impassioned and lushly arranged" - Esquire

"It's quite a ride' - Uncut 4/5

“Jamie Lidell has shifted boundaries, moved from style to style. On his new album 'Compass' the producer comes closer than ever to defining his multi-faceted sound, to pinning his ideas down onto one disc.” - Clash

'Lidell's previous albums have tried to reconcile his two loves; electronica and classic soul. On Compass, the globe wandering Englishman might have squared the circle'
- Uncut

'A welcome return' - The Guardian

“We’re honoured to hear something as soulful, electically energised, energetic and accessible as this.” 10/10
