Detroit Intervenes With Jane's Addiction...

From the beginning, Jane's Addiction has thrown the most unique parties in rock, mixing a fierce musicality with theatrical flair onstage. 2012 sees the band--who’ve always outrageously combined electricity, sex and danger--return in support of their acclaimed album THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST (Capitol Records), which features the now-buzzing-at-radio track “Underground.” Starting February 22, this special run of North American shows—called“Theatre of the Escapists”--will bring the band to intimate venues, most of which are classic theatres. The alternative rock pioneers--frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins, along with Chris Chaney on bass—are poised to deliver an immersive theatrical experience as only they can. Tickets go on sale January 14th.

Gillian Welch has confirmed a headlining North American tour. This initial leg of touring has Welch and David Rawlings playing in 35 cities, beginning June 30 in Quincy, CA, for the High Sierra Festival, and ending September 17 at the Austin City Limits Festival. They will also be performing at the Newport Folk Festival.

Welch will play the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, Michigan on July 23rd.

The tour is in support of Welch’s new record, The Harrow & The Harvest, which is due to be released on June 28. The Harrow & The Harvest, “is a new Southern sound,” writes Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, “with the sort of songs you wouldn’t be surprised to hear issuing from some verdant, wooded hollow in Appalachia; Songs you’d expect to hear hollered from an Asheville grange hall, all too late in the evening. Songs with the wry humor of the back porch. Listen to this record with the lights low. Listen to it on an old radio, cradled next to your ear.”

tUnE-yArDs To Play Pike Room in Pontiac...

tUnE yArDs will play The Pike Room in Pontiac, Michigan on May 11th. Their latest effort is w h o k i l l, which will be released on April 19th.

TUNE YARDS is the singular musical project of New England native Merrill Garbus. Possessing an expansive sound that marries a coarse folk ingenuity with the bold pop sensibility of an R&B siren, her music is assembled with a staunch DIY aesthetic. Recording herself using a digital voice recorder and assembled using shareware mixing software, she was described by Stereogum as “a self-contained Sublime Frequencies compilation, jumping between blues, African tunes, shiny reggae-esque sprawls, and lo-fi folk”, infusing the worldly sonic palette of M.I.A. and post-punk pioneers The Raincoats.

Sufjan Stevens Tour Dates Include Royal Oak...

With planned performances at a number of large, elegant venues—including two nights at New York’s fabled Beacon Theatre and a night at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles—Sufjan Stevens is set to hit the road for an extensive North American tour in fall 2010. The performances will feature fully realized versions of the songs initially debuted during a late 2009 tour of small clubs in which Stevens workshopped several works-in-progress. “In his new songs,” The New York Times notes of one of Stevens’ fall 2009 Brooklyn performances, “love leads him to improvisation, chaos and spasms of rhythm, all precisely dolloped out.” Stevens will tour with his large ensemble performing alongside a full production including projections.

Sufjan Stevens has released eight studio recordings since 2000 including the critically acclaimed Michigan and Illinois (the latter named the “Best Album of the Decade” by Paste); a 5-EP Christmas box set; Enjoy Your Rabbit, an instrumental electronic song cycle based on the animals of the Chinese Zodiac; and the aforementioned The BQE. Run Rabbit Run, a recording of Enjoy Your Rabbit rearranged for the Osso String Quartet, was released in 2009 via Asthmatic Kitty. Stevens has also collaborated with The Danielson Famile, Rosie Thomas, Denison Witmer, My Brightest Diamond and many others.

Killing Joke to Play Crofoot in Pontiac, MI...

According to their website, Killing Joke will be at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan on May 28th.

From Killing Joke's Myspace Page:
With a reputation forged in fire, brimstone and magic, Killing Joke have long been one of rock's most iconic & influential outfits.

Now, 30 years since first bonding in blood, the original line-up of Jaz Coleman (vocals), Geordie (guitar), Youth (bass) and Paul Ferguson(drums) are set to start work on their 13th studio album – the first fruits of a new worldwide deal with the Spinefarm Records label.

Set for release in April 2010, this latest set of recordings (title to be confirmed) will see the aforementioned musicians sharing studio space for the first time in 27 years, having already road-tested their relationship with sold-out shows around the world, kicking off in Tokyo last Autumn.

Over the years, the band members have chosen to develop their talents in a variety of ways: triple Grammy winner Jaz Coleman, for instance, has established an international reputation working with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, whilst Martin ‘Youth' Glover has become one of the UK's most celebrated producers, supervising albums from the Verve & Primal Scream amongst others, as well as achieving major success as one half of highly-regarded duo, The Orb.

Covered by Metallica, Foo Fighters and more, Killing Joke's apocalyptic vision continues to draw praise from such high-profile supporters as Jimmy Page and Billy Corgan, and the band's considerable musical legacy can be heard in the works of Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and the like – artists whose rise to fame never saw them cutting ties with the underground/alternative scene.

Once described by Paul Ferguson as ‘the sound of the earth vomiting', Killing Joke are now poised to take their music of resistance to a whole new level, both in the studio and on the road.

As ever, the journey won't be easily forgotten… whether those involved wish to do so or not!
