Seeing Through The Hayes...

During this busy summer, this site failed to mention that Sean Hayes released another fine CD several weeks back called Flowering Spade. So sparse, but strong tracks...it never gets old. Also included a track from a previous release, Alabama Chicken.

Nothing Beats a Full House...

Just got dealt another winning hand by being hooked up with the good people over at Capital A Prints (Madhouse). Mock was given the go ahead to design a gig poster for the Crowded House show up in Ann Arbor last Tuesday. Neil Finn is considered by many to be one of pop music's premiere songwriters with an amazing vocal tone to match...so when he is involved "I'm all in." The poster situation allowed for the VIP treatment as we sat in the 5th row center and were able to meet the band after the performance. These guys could not have been nicer to a couple of midwest music fans. Mock recapped the evening on the Madhouse blog. The setlist was completely satisfying as they offered up nearly every hit along with some new material...and the poster was a sell out. A great evening...we won BIG! I also managed to get some decent video during the show.

The Boys Are Back In Town...

Tickets go on sale today for The Beastie Boy's visit to Detroit on September 24th. They will be playing the Fillmore Detroit (formerly the State Theatre). This tour has seen both instrumental "Gala" events (to support their new release) and regular concerts...looks like the stop in the Motor City is going to be a regular show.

Let Battles Begin...

Battles waging, Battles raging...this band is coming to Ann Arbor's Blind Pig on Friday, November 9th. This band amazed the crowd at Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago a few weeks ago...they are worth catching live in such a small venue. Not all Battles are destructive, but this band may destroy your notions of what makes a great live show.

Here is video of an entire Chicago show (3/30/07) on YouTube.

Brooklyn Borough Rocked So Thorough...

No lifeguards were on duty at McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn last Thursday and as a result thousands of Beastie Boys fans drowned in a sea of funky hometown beats. This show was being talked about as The Beastie's FIRST Brooklyn Show EVER!!!!...and they came prepared to rock the mic. The vibe of an outdoor show in Brooklyn added to the anticipation. From the minute they walked out on stage (in suits and ties) to the encore of No Sleep Till Brooklyn, they had us all swimming in the deep end. There are several reviews floating around out there, but better to just show how the whole scene went down. Check out this video I captured as they let the beat drop.
Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten,
from the Battery to the top of Manhattan,
Asian, Middle Eastern and Latin,
Black, White...New York, you make it happen.
