Here is your chance – Be a part of rock history. Click here to donate.

MEET BOBBY BARE JR.

Son of country music royalty, father of three, nominated for a Grammy at age 6, he’s terrified of elves, he was at the forefront of the indie rock movement in the country music capital of the world, and if you catch him in a city near you, he’ll rock your face off.
“…The only real curiosity about Bare’s career to date is that he hasn’t yet become a big name in modern rock—the kind of artist whose every album is awaited with the eager anticipation…" — Nashville Scene

Bare Jr. has toured with – Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Andrew Bird, The Drive By Truckers, Dr. Dog, The Decembrists, The Walkmen, Centro-Matic, The Bottel Rockets and The Old 97’s.

In the artists words, his music is ‘southern and it rocks, but its not southern rock’.
With his unique sound, Bare Jr. redefines both expectations, and what it means to be an independent artist in the 21st century. His style is a study in contrasts, going from gentle acoustic melodies to a guitar shredding riff in seconds. As he taps a tambourine with his foot, strums his guitar and tells stories in song – you’re captivated.

With the recent release of Twistable, Turnable Man: A Musical Tribute to the Songs of Shel Silverstein, produced by Bobby Bare Jr. and his dad, along with Bobby’s own album, A Storm, A Tree, My Mothers Head and an upcoming nationwide tour, Bare Jr. has a feeling that NOW is HIS time.

Like Bare Jr.’s music, this film will be a constantly evolving piece of art. Traveling with exclusive access we will be there to witness and capture first hand, the events that unfold as this artist approaches a crossroads in his life and career.

This isn’t a glowing or pompous look at a musical diva, but rather a look at a rocker who will do whatever it takes – at the times where so many other musicians would step down or sell out, Bare Jr. steps up.

BUT WE CAN’T MAKE THIS FILM WITHOUT YOU.

To truly capture Bare’s eclectic music style, we will shoot on mixed formats including 16mm, 8mm, HD, and utilize GoPro cameras to capture a true “fly on the wall” experience. The GoPro cameras offer a new perspective with their size and ability to be mounted on the stage, in places no other camera can get creating a new look at what it feels like to perform live. This is a truly unique experience.

We will also incorporate unique stop motion animation emphasizing certain experiences on the road and help to bridge together our travels on tour.

WE NEED FILM – WE NEED MONEY – WE NEED YOU! YOU CAN BE A DRIVING FORCE IN BRINGING THIS FILM TO LIFE.

Come along for the ride as Bobby Bare Jr. rocks across the country and takes the music industry by storm.

We would also welcome donations of items from film stock, to equipment, to a van to drive across country. And, if you are interested in the project and you have skills you could contribute, we would love to hear from you.

40 Years Ago Today, Woodstock Began...

Rolling Stone has called it "the most famous event in rock history." The Woodstock Music and Art Fair, on a 600-acre farm in the township of Bethel, New York, from August 15-18, 1969, represents more than a peaceful gathering of 500,000 people and 32 musical performances. Woodstock has become an idea that has suffused our culture, politically and socially, as much as musically. Joni Mitchell, who didn't attend but wrote an anthemic song about it, once said, "Woodstock was a spark of beauty" where half-a-million kids "saw that they were part of a greater organism." According to Michael Lang, one of four young men who formed Woodstock Ventures to produce the festival, "That's what means the most to me – the connection to one another felt by all of us who worked on the festival, all those who came to it, and the millions who couldn't be there but were touched by it."

Taking Woodstock is based on the memoirs of Elliot Tiber, the comedy stars Demetri Martin as Elliot, who inadvertently played a role in making 1969’s Woodstock Music and Arts Festival into the famed happening it was. Featuring a standout ensemble cast, and songs from a score of ‘60s musical icons including The Grateful Dead, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, and Country Joe and the Fish – plus a new recording of “Freedom” from Richie Havens – Taking Woodstock is a joyous voyage to a moment in time when everything seemed possible.

The movie will be released on August 28th.

Wilco: Ashes of American Flags DVD Trailer...

Nonesuch Records releases Wilco’s new concert DVD, Ashes of American Flags, on Saturday, April 18, at independent retailers nationwide as part of national Record Store Day. The DVD will also be available on that day here at nonesuch.com. A broader release through iTunes, Amazon.com, and chain retail outlets will follow on April 28.

Ashes of American Flags is produced and directed by Christoph Green and Fugazi’s Brendan Canty and shot in five quintessentially American venues: Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, OK; Tipitina’s in New Orleans, LA; The Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, AL; The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN; and the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. Mixing live concert footage with band interviews, it takes the viewer behind the scenes of Wilco’s 2008 US tour capturing both the expansive experience of rolling across America in a tour bus and the intimacy that happens night after night between the members of Wilco and the music they make, and between the band and their fans who come to experience it with them.

“It is really interesting to me how the experience of watching the live performances changes when the songs are given geographical, personal and historical contexts," said Christoph Green. " We wanted to make a tour film that would deepen and change the viewer’s relationship with the music.”

“Ashes was captured completely on the fly with a terrifying lack of planning, so everything you see in this film is real," adds Brendan Canty. "The musicianship and their combined will to elevate each song to new heights every night is real. Their appreciation of one another is real, and at the core of the film is their increasingly brilliant body of songs. I can only hope the film conveys the feeling of utter joy, beauty and triumph I feel after I see them play. “
