Fresh Atmosphere at The Crofoot...

The Family Vacation Tour featuring Atmosphere stops at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan on August 7th.

Fresh off the heels of their brand new album, The Family Sign, their landmark headlining performance at the Soundset Festival and a well-received Bonnaroo appearance, Atmosphere are announcing another string of live dates with label-mates Evidence and DJ Babu (of Dilated Peoples), Blueprint, and Prof. The tightly knit crew will bring a multi-faceted set of performances to venues both intimate and vast, delivering new music and time-tested favorites.

Few of their contemporaries have dedicated such a large percentage of their professional lives to touring, and this statement rings truer with each additional outing. Atmosphere, originally a 2-piece consisting of a touring DJ and rapper Slug, have augmented their battery with the addition of producer Ant, guitarist Nate Collis and keyboardist Erick Anderson, reinvigorating expected classics with live instrumentation and performing songs from the latest albums with absolute, heartfelt accuracy. Columbus, Ohio's Blueprint will be supporting the dates with a set drawn largely from his April release Adventures In Counter-Culture, a self-produced gem that straddles rock and pop while remaining steadfastly hip-hop.

Representing Rhymesayers' western contingent, Evidence will be supporting his highly anticipated Rhymesayers debut Cats & Dogs with DJ Babu of the legendary Dilated Peoples, and long-time Rhymesayers affiliate Prof rounds out the bill. "Reverence really was the word of the night, and it was a two-way street... something beyond words formed a bond that made the night something to commemorate. Life is easy to enjoy when you're at a killer Atmosphere show."- BOULDER WEEKLY

Rakim Brings the Beat to Pontiac...

Hip Hop Heavyweight, Rakim, will be performing at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan on October 8th for a Seventh Seal Listening Party.

His first full album of new material in almost a decade, The Seventh Seal is Rakim's contemporary observation of the Hip-Hop culture he helped define. While staying loyal to his New York roots, the artist has created a body of work that encompasses the very best of regional, underground and mainstream styles reformed and delivered through his intricate lyricism and the seemingly effortless flow for which he is revered. The first single, “Holy Are You” (produced by long-time Rakim collaborator Nick Wiz for Preserve the Art) embodies the overall concept of the album, communicating Rakim’s worldview and spirituality through artistic interpretation of scriptures and revelations about the coming of the Apocalypse and each persons role in the world around them. Additional releases prior to the albums early Fall drop range from seething character studies of life in modern times and personal stories of self-awareness to feel good anthems celebrating music and Hip-Hop in all of its forms.

The artist states, “The Seventh Seal is my own revelation. . . my way of taking the best of what Hip-Hop has to offer, what we as a culture and a community have to offer, putting my stamp on it and leading us forward while constantly respecting what we’ve already accomplished. When you’ve been blessed with a career like mine, you develop a deep relationship with the music and that love is recognized by the true heads that share it with you. Holy Are You is for those core brothers and sisters. . . the first building block – the lyrical and spiritual piece – of an album that’s my monument to Hip-Hop past, present and future. You’ll see us keep building as we break through each Seal. . .showing the best of what I can do in many forms, bringing the energy and having fun, but first I’m laying that foundation and give my longtime fans the conscious fire they expect.”

May Day Comes Early in Detroit...

Dent May & His Magnificent Ukelele is coming to the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, MI this Saturday, March 7th.

Excerpt from Crofoot Ballroom website:
You may have heard of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, a new pop musician from Oxford, Mississippi. If not, you’ll be hearing a lot from him in the coming year. Dent’s unique vocal style, part crooner, part falsetto, and 101 percent showman reflects the influences of some of his favorite singers (Prince, Serge Gainsbourg, and Lee Hazlewood to name a few). His love of various song styles results in a unique combination of ukulele, drums, pedal steel, violin, horns and bass. One second his songs hint at Brazilian Tropicalia, the next a ‘50s barbershop quartet or an early 20th century country swing. By integrating his favorite pop music from around the world and writing about what is in front of him (his town, his friends, and pretty girls), Dent takes the “think global, buy local” motto to heart. He may just be one of the 21st century’s first sustainable pop singers. Animal Collective first heard Dent May when they were recording their new record in Oxford Mississippi in early 2008. They quickly signed him to their Paw Tracks imprint and now we present his incredibly impressive debut full length, The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele. With excitement reaching a fever pitch a new term has been coined: Dent Maynia. Catch it.
