Beirut Scheduled for Royal Oak Show...

Beirut will play Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, Michigan on Tuesday, October 11th. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 1st.

Beirut - East Harlem by Revolver USA

From Wikipedia:
In early June 2011, amidst touring the US, Beirut announced that their newest album, The Rip Tide, which had been recorded the previous winter in New York, was to be released on August 30. The band simultaneously released a single, "East Harlem" (which was first recorded on Live at the Music Hall of Williamsburg ), with the B-side "Goshen"; both songs that appear on the new album. The new album is recorded, managed, and released under Condon's own Pompeii Records, in order to preserve recording rights. Reviewers and fellow musicians have noted that, unlike the prior albums which drew heavily on foreign music from Mexico, France, the Balkans, etc., this one has shown Beirut with its own, more pop-oriented sound; saying, "what emerges [on The Rip Tide] is a style that belongs uniquely and distinctly to Beirut, one that has actually been there all along."

Fresh Atmosphere at The Crofoot...

The Family Vacation Tour featuring Atmosphere stops at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan on August 7th.

Fresh off the heels of their brand new album, The Family Sign, their landmark headlining performance at the Soundset Festival and a well-received Bonnaroo appearance, Atmosphere are announcing another string of live dates with label-mates Evidence and DJ Babu (of Dilated Peoples), Blueprint, and Prof. The tightly knit crew will bring a multi-faceted set of performances to venues both intimate and vast, delivering new music and time-tested favorites.

Few of their contemporaries have dedicated such a large percentage of their professional lives to touring, and this statement rings truer with each additional outing. Atmosphere, originally a 2-piece consisting of a touring DJ and rapper Slug, have augmented their battery with the addition of producer Ant, guitarist Nate Collis and keyboardist Erick Anderson, reinvigorating expected classics with live instrumentation and performing songs from the latest albums with absolute, heartfelt accuracy. Columbus, Ohio's Blueprint will be supporting the dates with a set drawn largely from his April release Adventures In Counter-Culture, a self-produced gem that straddles rock and pop while remaining steadfastly hip-hop.

Representing Rhymesayers' western contingent, Evidence will be supporting his highly anticipated Rhymesayers debut Cats & Dogs with DJ Babu of the legendary Dilated Peoples, and long-time Rhymesayers affiliate Prof rounds out the bill. "Reverence really was the word of the night, and it was a two-way street... something beyond words formed a bond that made the night something to commemorate. Life is easy to enjoy when you're at a killer Atmosphere show."- BOULDER WEEKLY

Fitz For FREE at The Rock Hall...

Summer in the City, a FREE live concert series featuring the most buzzed-about bands on the rise, returns this summer at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum on the Museum plaza (weather permitting, if necessary it will be moved inside to the Main Stage).

Some of the country and region’s most popular up-and-coming bands and artists will perform for the first time at the Rock Hall. Each Summer the City artist or band has been invited to blog on rockhall.com/blog to share their experiences with fans: how they got started, their inspirations, their aspirations for the future and what their thoughts are on performing in Cleveland at the Museum.

Summer in the City 2011 Line-up:
July 6th from 7-9 p.m.: Fitz and the Tantrums with Clovers
July 13th from 7-9 p.m.: Das Racist with Smoke Screen and Muamin Collective
August 3rd from 7-9 p.m.: The Joy Formidable with HotChaCha

From their website:
In just a year or so, soulsters Fitz & the Tantrums went from the living room to the main stage. The recipe for meteoric success? Six killer musicians, five dapper suits, irresistible songs, some serendipity and one vintage organ.

Since their first show at Hollywood’s Hotel Café in December 2008, Fitz and co. have toured with Maroon 5, played to thousands at Colorado’s world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre, shared the stage New Year’s Eve with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and performed on KCRW’s esteemed show, Morning Becomes Eclectic, all this on the strength of their stellar five-song EP, Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1.

For some bands, it takes a lifetime to build this success, but few performers deliver an unrestrained blast of soul-clapping, get-down-on-the-floor, moneymaker shakers like Fitz and the Tantrums. Now post-release of their debut full length, Pickin’ Up the Pieces, which has since earned them a 3 ½ star album review in ROLLING STONE, the troupe is poised to get down in dancehalls across the universe.

Gillian Welch to Play Royal Oak, MI...

Gillian Welch has confirmed a headlining North American tour. This initial leg of touring has Welch and David Rawlings playing in 35 cities, beginning June 30 in Quincy, CA, for the High Sierra Festival, and ending September 17 at the Austin City Limits Festival. They will also be performing at the Newport Folk Festival.

Welch will play the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, Michigan on July 23rd.

The tour is in support of Welch’s new record, The Harrow & The Harvest, which is due to be released on June 28. The Harrow & The Harvest, “is a new Southern sound,” writes Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, “with the sort of songs you wouldn’t be surprised to hear issuing from some verdant, wooded hollow in Appalachia; Songs you’d expect to hear hollered from an Asheville grange hall, all too late in the evening. Songs with the wry humor of the back porch. Listen to this record with the lights low. Listen to it on an old radio, cradled next to your ear.”

David Wax Museum To Visit The Ark...

The David Wax Museum will play at The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan on September 9th, 2011.

Fron their website:
Recently anointed as Boston’s Americana Artist of the Year (2010 Boston Music Awards), the David Wax Museum has been called “pure, irresistible joy” (Bob Boilen, NPR) and hailed by TIME.com for its “virtuosic musical skill and virtuous harmonies.” It is no surprise that its acclaimed performance at the 2010 Newport Folk Festival was hailed as one of highlights of the entire weekend by NPR. The Museum fuses traditional Mexican folk with American roots and indie rock to create an utterly unique Mexo-Americana aesthetic. Combining Latin rhythms, call-and-response hollering, and donkey jawbone rattling, they have electrified audiences across the country and are “kicking up a cloud of excitement with their high-energy border-crossing sensibility” (The New Yorker).
